We are pleased to inform you that Nodal Office, Thiruvananthapuram of Christ University, Bangalore is conducting FOURTH Training Workshop on Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) on December 18, 19 & 20, 2014.


Brief Introduction:   Quantitative Data Analysis basically starts with Explorations > Descriptives, goes with Comparison of Means, then to Associations > Relations > Correlations > Covariance > Regression > Functional /Relational modeling etc. This schema is based on -- One–To–One; Many–To–One; One–To–Many relationships of variables. But when variables are closely interconnected and are believed to be having “Many–To –Many” Relationships, (or) where a variable is having a Relationship with a Target Variable operating through an Intermediate or Operational Variable (ex: x depends on y through a), regular Quantitative Techniques are not feasible or to say, very tedious to calculate. Even though, we calculate with difficulties, the end result will never be a valid one logically.  SEM comes to handy in situations like this. In social sciences research, usually, a single (or Multi) variable will be associated with almost all variables of the Research and the Reverse is also the case. Though, we have MCDM / MCOM (Multi Criterion Decision/Options Modeling) techniques available, SEM is believed to be the highest pinnacle in the Multivariable -- Multi-Relationship Quantitative data analysis. 


Objectives of the Workshop:

  • To familiarize the Undermining concepts of Statistics required for understanding Structural Equation Modeling for the Researchers
  •  To Introduce Data Simulation using Microsoft Excel
  • To introduce - how to Manage Research Data using IBM SPSS 22.0
  • To introduce to the Confirmatory Factorial Analysis using IBM SPSS AMOS 22.0
  • To introduce model building using IBM SPSS AMOS 22.0 

Topics covered:  

Basic Concepts of Covariance, Regression & Moments ; Determining Sample Size required for Structural Equation Modeling using GPower; Data Simulation using Microsoft Excel; Data Management for SEM using IBM SPSS; Installation & Introduction to IBM SPSS AMOS; Confirmatory Factorial Analysis (CFA) using IBM SPSS AMOS; Model Building using IBM SPSS AMOS;  Model Corrections / Refinement; Evaluating the model’s efficiency; Finalizing the model and Report preparation for SEM models

Delegate profile:  All Research Guides, Researchers (including Post-Graduate, M.Phil. & Ph.D. students); and Business Data Modelers from Industry are welcomed to participate.
